Drones, your TV signal and the future might soon enhance our lives

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The NAB convention in Las Vegas offers a glimpse into future innovations and future technologies to make our lives better.

Kevin Gage is the COO of CAST.ERA, a joint venture between Sinclair Broadcast Group and SK Telecom in South Korea.

“I think this is going to be a groundbreaking technology,' Gage said.

Gage said the demonstration at NAB wasn't a simple drone flight, but a glance into so much more.

'The same signal that’s broadcasting your news over the air is also broadcasting a data stream that’s enhancing the GPS of that drone,' he said.

The enhanced GPS is powered by Nextgen TV providing more precision for location services.

'It’s taking a three-meter accuracy down to three centimeters accuracy,' Gage said.

The applications of the technology – agricultural, vehicles or drones – are potentially huge.

'One signal coming out of your broadcast tower will be able to enable all of those devices, all of those unmanned vehicles, to have a three-centimeter accuracy,' Gage said.

It can help drones deliver food, or be an essential tool in severe weather, disaster and other life-threatening events.

'To be able to provide just-in-time services: whether it’s tools, whether it’s medicine, whether it’s information to those first responders and emergency responders,' Gage said.

It has the power to transform the future one flight at a time.
